Mike has the ability – backed by a proven track record – to deliver highly effective transformation cost reduction programmes across a number of different industry sectors. He is an experienced consultant with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to operate at all levels within an organisation, operationally and strategically.

Mike’s category and product knowledge includes: mechanical & electrical plant and equipment, freight, fleet, energy, OEM parts and equipment. He is also a full member of CIPS. Mike also has wide experience of some specialist sectors under his belt, such as: aerospace; building services; nuclear; construction; mining; refrigeration.

Some career highlights include:

  • Responsible for the implementation of a highly effective strategic sourcing and transactional purchasing transformation programme for US-based mining and construction company. The project activity focused across the contiguous North East, covering multiple sites representing a spend of c.$270m. From which auditable savings of $26m were delivered covering multiple categories including OEM parts and equipment, freight, energy, fuel, general plant and equipment by way of multiple procurement best practice approaches.
  • Responsible for designing and developing a full Strategic Sourcing function across a £180M UK business from scratch. Including recruiting and training of four category managers, putting all policies, procedures and category management principles in place so that they are tangible and deliver real business benefits. Benefits included delivering £2M annual cost savings from all external spend including, Fleet, Commodities (copper & refrigeration gases), refrigeration parts and equipment and subcontractor services.
  • Cost reduction project for an international aluminium recycling company, categories included general consumables, fabricated equipment, bearings, motors, pumps etc. £2M annual spend £240K annual cost savings.

Milke’s corporate experience over a thirty year period comprises: Rolls-Royce, NG Bailey, Magnox, Pearce Construction and Space Engineering Services.
